From Weight Loss to Washboard: Diet For Abs

Whether you want washboard abs for showing off at the beach or just a flat healthy tummy, a good diet for abs can certainly help.

It is almost common knowledge to us that sit-ups and abdominal exercise have to be done in order to build flatter midsections. A lot of TV shopping commercials offer a lot of weird looking contraptions and machines, all claiming to give you the abs “everybody wants to have.”

But even if you had the greatest abdominal muscles in the world, it wouldn’t really matter if you have a huge slab of body fat covering it.

Well, most of the time nice abs and fat don’t really go together. Six packs are hard to build if you’re not healthy, and a good abdominal workout usually melts fat off. But what if you don’t want a six pack? What if you’re a mom who just wants to trim her figure after giving birth? Or a teenage girl who doesn’t really want muscles to be bulging out of her stomach (oh, the things they’ll say about you in the locker room…)?

Men and women actually have different strategies to keep tummies in shape. It really boils down to who wants what; men usually want rock hard washboard abs while most women prefer a flat and shapely midriff. Either choice requires a good diet for abs and a good abdominal exercise. It’s just a matter of how much of each you employ to achieve your desired result.

Why men and women prefer different diet for abs techniques also results from their difference in physique and the way that fat is deposited in their body. Women fat buildup is distributed on the arms, abdomen and the buttocks, Men’s fat rest mostly on the abdominal area.

So we have two components in a diet for abs: Abdominal exercise to tone and develop the abdominal muscles and the food diet for abs as a specialized way to eliminate the fat deposits near the midsection.

Diet for abs are just like regular diets for obesity, only less intense.
Diets like Atkins and Zone can also be used if the person is obese but if there isn’t too much fat and only toning/shaping/definition is desired, exercise like running, cycling can easily take care of it. Basically, diet for abs can be considered as a combination of diet and exercise.

The first step you should take is to adopt healthier eating habits. Not only will you gain more food volume this way but you can use natural low calorie seasonings such as onions to improve the taste. This is proven for long term health and fat loss while removing the strain of diet for abs itself...

Some diet for abs tips to remember…

When preparing meat, always trim the fat off of it. Or if it is something like chicken, remove the skin. If that is too bland chop it up and add it to something like rice!

Write down what you eat and stick with it. You'd be surprised at how many extra things you might be eating if you don't write your menu down.

If you must fry things, use a non-fat cooking spray. This will save you many calories versus cooking with oil.

Remember that in diet for abs, diet and exercise are a 50/50 ratio. If one or the other is missing you will be less likely to succeed! You can exercise until you pass out but if you are taking in too many calories you won't see dramatic changes in your appearance.

Concentrate on fat loss, not weight loss. Your appearance is what counts, not how much you weigh. Since muscle is heavier than fat you might be surprised! And remember, muscle burns calories!

The real key to a good diet for abs is consistency. If you start missing meals or skipping workouts your progress will slow down to the point of discouragement. Find a good diet for abs program and stick with it. Remember, you get out of it what you put into it!
